"Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." Psalm 90:12
Supporting our Youth, the Laborers
and Leaders of Tomorrow

Summer is a great time of year. In rural America, FFA and 4-H youth get the opportunity to participate in lots of great activities and show their projects at the fair.  Although a few may receive “big money” from selling a project at the county or state fair, the biggest value comes in the discipline and hard work it takes to bring a project to completion.

As ag businesses, we need to encourage all local programs of value that give our youth opportunities to develop character and discipline, mature in dealing with projects and people, and plant in them a thirst to continue to learn and grow into hard working, dependable American citizens.  Work ethic, integrity, stick-to-itiveness, and other critical core values are needed today more than ever to be “caught by” and “taught to” our youth so they are prepared for the world of work that awaits them.

So, will you consider having your business support a 4-H club or encourage your team members to volunteer to support FFA programs and activities?  You might even sponsor a grade school class or a

church youth group and have them visit your business a couple times a year to learn about what you do and the people who make it all happen.

Why?  We need every young person to have the example and encouragement they need to become dependable, productive, and patriotic citizens.  In just a few short years, you will be hiring from among them.  Who is better to model positive values and encourage them in their life’s journey than you!

To maximize the value of your own days, take time to read “Later Will Be Now Before You Know Itfound elsewhere in this newsletter.

Later Will Be Now Before You Know It

We have a question to ask you.  But you must slow down to answer it.  Stop scrolling.

Take a moment.  Take a breath.

Question:  Knowing what you know now, having all of life’s experiences thus far behind you, what would you do differently?

The Present
Why is this important?  Because if you are still reading this article, you have got a gift sitting in front of you.  Every single person reading this article has this gift in common.  The gift? Is time.

Why is it that the question of “what would you do differently” is most commonly asked following a negative event?  A missed opportunity to land a big client, a health scare, the sudden loss of a loved one.  Why must it take being jarred out of the routine of life before reflection becomes a prioritization?

The weekend should not be a 48-hour countdown until Monday, and Friday should not feel like the victorious finish line of a marathon. What if instead of being vulnerable to the regrets of the future, we take a moment, take a breath, and decide what we want to do differently – starting today.
