"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." James 1:5

Gaining Wisdom for the Workplace

A new year means new challenges and new opportunities.  To win, we need to make good decisions, and to make good decisions, we need good information.  But we need more than just good information.  We need wisdom to build a firm foundation from which we can make those good decisions.

How, you ask, do I gain that wisdom?  Where does it come from?  Wisdom is much like experience in such a way as a young person recently explained to me, “That employer wants experience, but how do I get experience if no one will hire me and give me a chance to get it?”

W
isdom does indeed take time and exposure to life experiences to accumulate.  It also comes with a price, but not a price that money can pay.  To gain wisdom we must pay attention to what is going on around us.  We must absorb what life brings us, both the

good and bad.  For those who grew up on the farm, think about the life’s lessons and the wisdom you gained through the seasons.  Calves that didn’t make it; rains that never came; weeds that did; eating lunch in the field; gathering an abundant harvest; or pulling baby pigs at 2:00 am.

Most of us have heard, “If I only knew then what I know now…”  That essentially refers to wisdom, the wisdom gained from experiencing life and learning to make better decisions.   For more insight on wisdom, invest a few minutes and enjoy “Walking in the Ways of the Wise” elsewhere in this

I think it is safe to say most of us were eagerly awaiting the arrival of 2021 as last year was full of uncertainty and a lot of unknown. At our house we were excited for the new year for another reason, we kicked 2021 off by having our first child!

I would like to introduce the newest AGRI-SEARCH family member, Williams Richard Alt. Williams was born on January 12, 2021 and was 6lbs 11oz and 19 ¼” long. Though he is a tiny little thing he has filled our hearts in the biggest way. Being a new mom has been the hardest yet most rewarding job I have ever had. I tell myself everyday “the nights are long, but the years are short” and I am soaking up every second with this sweet boy.

We hope you all have had a great start to this new year full of opportunity, and I look forward to working with you again soon. Until then you can find me cuddling with Williams.

Walking in the Ways of the Wise
By Dave Allen

I have been blessed to have great people build into my life and learned at a young age you usually gain a lot more wisdom listening to “old timers” than from your peers.  Think about your own life experiences, perhaps sitting around the table with your grandparents, aunts and uncles, or neighbors talking about their own life experiences.  Ponder the stories about picking corn by hand, attending a one room school, having no indoor plumbing, or sharing a “party line” with the neighbors.  We develop a hunger in our lives for wisdom and understanding by cultivating a desire to listen, learn, and grow our minds while admitting that we really don’t know as much as we would like to think we do.
